Kim Norman began her college coaching career at Utah State University (USU) in 1987, where she coached and earned an M.S. in Physical Education. After one season as second assistant coach for the USU women's volleyball team, Norman took over the USU collegiate men's program as their head coach from 1988-1991.
Her concern that volleyball athletes were being recruited only from Southern California led her to start an region of USA Volleyball now called the Intermountain Volleyball Association. As founder and CEO since its inception in 1990, Norman is responsible for making Utah one of the naton's powerhouses in the Junior Olympic Volleyball Club world. Norman is also the founder of the High Country Volleyball Club where her responsibilities include Director of Coaching and Athlete Development and Coach of the 18-1 team. Norman's club has finished as high as 2nd in the nation, and this season finished 13th in the Open division at the Junior Olympic Volleyball National Championships. As Head Coach of Highland High School in 1992, Norman compiled a 296-92 record over twelve seasons. Under her coaching, the Rams made it to every state championship from 1992-2003, and won the Utah High School State Championships in 1996 and 1997 led by noted volleyball Olympian Logan Tom. During her time at Highland, Norman was responsible for placing all but 2 athletes into college volleyball scholarships. In 1994 Kim worked in various coaching and administrative capacities with USA Volleyball, including assisting the Women's Junior National team. In 1996 Norman and University of Utah head coach Beth Launiere started the USA Volleyball Intermountain High Performance Program, a program that has been touted as the best Olympic Development Program in the USA Volleyball system. In December 2003 the United States Olympic Committee gave Utah and Intermountain Volleyball Association the only Community Olympic Development Program designation for Volleyball in the United States. Through her involvement with USA Volleyball, Norman has coached and represented the United States and Utah in several foreign countries. One of the highlights of her career was coaching at the Utah/Moscow games in Russia during the summer of 2003. Norman's life is volleyball, and her passion for the game is why she has taken the helm at Westminster College. Norman believes that with Westminster's philosophy of excellence, great things will happen for the Griffins' Volleyball program.
